The fact that Nigeria has a comparative advantage in Agricultural production is a point I have stressed on this platform in my past write-ups. With one the best climatic and soil conditions in the world, the nation’s soil supports the proper growth and development of different types of agricultural produce and one of such produce is fruits.

Fruit is that part of a plant that consists of a stone/pit or seeds and flesh. It can eaten raw as food and usually taste sweet. Fruits of different types over the years have been used for the cure of one medical condition or the other. Whether the bark, leaves, skin or pit, all can be concocted into various types of medicines.

Though many fruits are produced in Nigeria, there is no proper statistics to determine the quantity produced every year. Friuts, especially for the export market have to be preserved due to the perishable nature of the product. The method of preservation would depend on the fruit in question. Proper packaging is also required to protect the delicate nature of the product and this can achieved through the use of drums, barrels and other appropriate containers for the export market while for the local market, packaging is usually in bulk.
