If you have been following our write-ups espcially on oil
palm and other oil bearing seeds, I am sure you would not confuse the title of
the article to mean the cake used the ceremony and other such social event. The
cake referred above is the bye-product produced mainly in the course of
processing oil bearing seeds.
Oil bearing seeds are seeds that oil can be extracted from
and they include groundnut, sesame, cotton, oil palm, Soya bean and in the
course of extracting there oil content ,a product known as cake is produced .
That is, the left over, after the oil might have been extracted. At such, we
have different types of cake depending on the parent material from which the
cake is made from e.g. groundnut cake.
Cake is a bye-product gotten from the processing of oil
bearing seeds. They form a very important part of animal feeds. Depending on
the type of feed that is been produced by the feed millers, cakes form an
important component because they contain the required protein in the feeds of
animals.
Animal feed are required for the proper development of livestock
and depending on the type of livestock and the stage of production of the
livestock some of the raw materials required in animal feed production includes
maize, whole wheat, oyster shells, bone meal, meat meal, blood meal, fish meal,
Soya cake, groundnut cake, palm kernel cake and a host of others.
Trading in cakes is surely a viable business because it
takes off the stress from the feed miller especially if the price effective
compared to when they get it themselves. Also feeding constitutes over 70% of
the cost of rearing animals and at such the market for the product is
established.
