For the benefit of those who need to know, an attempt would be made to define mineral. Mineral is an inorganic substance found in nature with a characteristics chemical composition and in some cases, of definite crystal structure. The earth crust contains rocks of different composition with different physical properties. Some hard, some soft.

Rocks are the materials which the earth's upper crusts are made of. Rocks are themselves composed of minerals. Minerals are naturally occurring elements like Gold, or a compound such as feldspar.

About 34 minerals deposits have been identified in Nigeria and one of such is feldspar. The alkalis and alumina contents are the two properties of feldspar that make it beneficial for industrial use.

It is estimated that about 85.90% of feldspar produced is consumed by the glass and ceramic industries, although the proportion varies from country to country.

Feldspar provides an inexpensive source of the alkali metals (sodium and potassium), and alumina. In the ceramic industry especially in the manufacture of white ware, feldspar is the second most important ingredient after clay. For glass, manufacture, feldspar is still one of the important raw materials.

Outside the use of feldspar as fluxes in the ceramic and glass industries, they are used as fillers and extenders in the paint, chemical, plastic, and rubber industries. They are also useful in the building/construction industries, where they can be used as decorative stones and chippings respectively. At times due to their luster and colour, they may be used as semi precious stones, and in the production of mild abrasives.

The business involves the sourcing of feldspar, milling and packaging same for sale to glass, ceramics, chemical, paints and plastics.

Feldspar occurs in the feldspar rich pegmatite of the older granites around Egbe, Udiarehyu, Okene and Lokoja in Kogi State; Osogbo in Osun State; Ijero-Ekiti in Ondo State; Abeokuta in Ogun state; Gwoza in Borno State and parts of Taraba/Adamawa State. The proposed business could be located in any of the areas mentioned above to closeness to the sources of raw materials.

The production capacity of the proposed milling plant is one and half {1.5} tons per hour and the plant would require a total manpower of about 49 persons.
