SACHET WATER {PURE WATER} AND BOTTLE WATER PRODUCTION IN NIGERIA, THE OPPORTUNITIES.

Water is one of the most essential commodities for the survival of all lives. It is abundant in nature and occupies about 70% of the earth’s crust. However, safe drinking water is very scarce hence the need for processing, treatment and proper packaging of water before consumption.Pure portable water is very essential for healthy living. It has no substitute.

The market for sachet and bottle water is national .With a population of over one hundred and sixty five million (165,000,000) people and an estimated national population growth rate of 5.7% per annum , average economic growth rate of 3.5% per annum in the past five (5) years ,Nigeria is a large ,expanding and sustainable market for sachet and bottle water.

The demand for sachet and bottle water nationwide is much considering the simple hypothesis that out of every one hundred Nigerians, 70 people drink (pure water) sachet water. Now, no matter the number of production plants exist in Nigeria cannot cover or meet the demand of sachet water.

The business of sachet and bottle water production is economically viable considering the input/output ratio and high demand rate for the product.

The selling price of a bag of sachet table water varies depending on the location of the producer. In terms of geographical spread, in the South West, South East and North East, a bag of 20 sachet of table water is sold not less than sixty naira {N 60.00} per bag while in the North- West in Nigeria is sold at forty five per 20 sachets in a bag.

Table water currently sells for N 650 a cartoon of 20* 75 cl bottles.

The plant and other operations can be accommodated on two plots of land, where the raw material would be processed and stored.

The accommodation would be styled after a warehouse design. Setting up a factory for production of sachet and bottle water is easy. All that is needed are briefly explained below:

In addition to the equipments above, bottle water production requires the following equipments

The major raw material required for the production of sachet and bottle water is untreated water. Raw water can be gotten sourced from a river, well or a borehole. Whatever the source, it is important to subject the water to treatment before consumption. It can be achieved using chemicals or through Reverse Osmosis System.

Chemical treatment involves using chlorine while reverse osmosis system uses specially constructed machines through which the raw water is passed for purification.

Production techniques are very easy. It involves rust removal, filtration to produce clear, colourless, tasteless drinking water. The chemicals are added to clear any bacteria and germ free from the water. The water is then filled in the bottle, corked and ready for sale.
