PAPER CUP PRODUCTION IN NIGERIA; THE FEASIBILITY REPORT.

Paper is one of the most important products ever invented by man. Widespread use of a written language would not have been possible without some cheap and practical material to write on. The invention of paper means that more people would be educated because more books would be printed and distributed.

Industry would grow because all the plans, blueprints, records and formulae it uses would be written down and saved, together with the printing press, paper provided an extremely important way to communicate knowledge.

Paper cups is made from mill board, grey board, kraft paper, grease proof paper and other papers, printed and given the desired shape and are extensively use. The disposable nature of these cups not only obviates the need for washing and cleaning but also save loses due to breakages that normally occur while using porcelain or glass wares.

Paper cups find extensive usage for serving eatables in parties, functions, social gatherings, etc., catering departments of railways, airlines and other establishments also amount for a major share of the demand of cups. There are several inherent advantages in using paper cups as compared to cups of other materials. These paper cups are gaining popularity all across Nigeria as a beautiful and stylish way of minimizing exposure to food borne infections.

This report is to examine the financial viability or otherwise of establishing a paper cup production plant in Lagos using double PE coated paper and bottom paper {white} as the raw material.

The proposed plant comprises of one ZBJ-X12 Medium Speed Ultrasonic Paper Cup Machine, one Die Cutting Machine, one Printing Machine, one Generator and one Project Vehicle.

ODOURLESS FUFU FLOUR PRODUCTION IN NIGERIA, THE FEASIBILITY REPORT.

Cassava is one of the most important root crops in Nigeria. Apart from being a staple crop in both rural and urban house-holds cassava is a major source of income to cassava farmers and processors in the rural areas.
Nigeria is currently the world leading producer of cassava, producing about forty million {40,000,000} Mt. per annum and cassava alone contributes about 5 % of agricultural GDP in Nigeria for food or domestic purposes but its industrial processing and utilization has been very limited.
Since the return to civil rule in 1999, Nigeria has witnessed steady but minimal growth of the middle class. These growths continues to drive the increasing social and health awareness of the need for hygienically well prepared foods required for good quality living standard of people.
This coupled with the geometrically exploding population and continued rural-urban drift continues to fuel the demand for food stuffs especially fufu, a staple food in the country.

Fufu Flour is fermented wet-paste made from cassava. Fufu is very rich in carbohydrate and has smooth texture. It is ranked next to gari as an indigenous food of most Nigerians in the south. Traditionally, it is produced in the wet form with moisture content of 40-50 per cent with a offensive characteristic odour. This makes the product highly perishable with a short shelf life compared with gari and lafun, which are in granular form with moisture content below 10 per cent.

In order to increase it shelf live, improved fufu production process has been developed. The improved production process is starts by peeling of roots, washing, cutting into pieces and steeping in water to ferment for 3–4 days. The fermented mash is pounded or simply washed over a fine sieve to remove fibre and the water expelled from the starch extract by pressing through muslin cloth to produce fufu.

This report is to examine the financial viability or otherwise of establishing fufu flour production plant in Nigeria with cassava tubers as the raw materials.

LIQUIFIED PETROLUEM GAS {LPG} REFILLING AND DISTRIBUTION IN NIGERIA; THE FEASIBILITY REPORT.

Petroleum products are among the most valuable natural resources abundantly available in our country. Nigerians and people everywhere use petroleum products as a fuel in their automobiles, generating sets, industrial plants and for cooking purposes, thus making petroleum products an essential commodity that is needed for the daily operations of individual, industrial and national activities.

Undoubtedly a vast investment potential exists in the domestic liquefied petroleum gas filling sub-sector of the Oil & Gas Industry in Nigeria. A large proportion of the middle and upper socio-economic class of people depend on gas for cooking purposes. So are industries, government establishments, hotels, hospitals, restaurants, bakeries e.t.c

A statistic for the country some years ago showed that a mere 5% of the consumption potentials of LPG were attained. It is therefore evident that we have a long way to saturate the Nigeria LPG Market if it were to be fully developed because if a domestic consumer is sure of getting LPG when and where he needs it at the right price, he would most willingly convert from firewood, coal or kerosene to LPG.

With huge gas reserves of 185 trillion cubic feet and the Nigerian government's strong commitment to developing the gas industry through the Gas Master Plan, there are a lot of emerging opportunities for investors in the sub- sector.
With less than one kilogram me per capita consumption, Nigeria ranks among the lowest liquefied petroleum gas consuming states in Africa despite its huge gas resources.

Today, Nigeria consumes about 110, 000MT per annum and we have about 130 LPG plants and 7,000 retailing outlets. If we can move the consumption level up to 750,000MT per annum, we expect to have about 250 LPG plants and 74,970 retailing outlets.”

More succinctly, a captive market of over 165 million people makes investment in LPG bottling plant viable since one of the challenges the Federal Government as well as LPG operators are forced to grapple with is how to popularize the use of cooking gas in Nigeria.

Following the unprecedented demand for LPG in Nigeria and attendant scarcity of the product which has resulted in sharp and arbitrary price increases, the distribution of gas products has been deregulated. Consequently, private individuals and firms can now set up LPG plants.

LAUNDRY SOAP PRODUCTION IN NIGERIA; THE FEASIBILITY REPORT.

Soap is the traditional washing compound made from the saponification of oil fats and caustic alkali. Commercially, the fat is sourced from tallow, lard, palm oil, palm kernel oil, coconut oil, marine oil, etc. Although at present, palm oil and palm kernel oil for the local soap making in Nigeria are readily available, nearly all the alkali for soap making is imported.

Soaps are cleaning products that have become an essential part in our daily lives. Cleaning products play an essential role by safely and effectively removing dirts, germs and other contaminants, and thus promote a hygienic lifestyle. There are therefore, indispensable items as a daily requirement in homes, offices, schools, hospitals, restaurants etc

The product is in great demands in Nigeria. Considering the estimated national population of 165 million and per capita consumption of 30 tablets, the national demand for soap is estimated at 4,950 million tablets per annum.

The industry has developed both in the small scale and organized sector. Laundry soap production is usually done by small scale industries and 90% of the production of laundry soap is in the small-scale sector. Toilet soap is however dominated by the multinational units.

This report seeks to examine the financial viability or otherwise of establishing a laundry soap production plant in Nigeria.

The estimated production capacity of the plant is960 drums or 6,288,000 tablets of laundry soap per annum at 80% of the installed capacity.

MEDIUM SCALE CONCRETE BLOCK PRODUCTION IN NIGERIA, THE FEASIBILITY REPORT.

Arguably one of the best investment vehicle in the world is real estate development owning to a number of factors which includes the fact that shelter {housing} is one of the basic need of man, fixed supply of land and the ever increasing value of properties with time.

Nigeria with her current population estimated at over one hundred and sixty five million {165,000,000} growing at a rate of 3.5% per annum has a short fall in the supply of housing units that has been estimated to be between 16 – 17 million.

With an economic growth rate of 5.7% per annum in the past five {5}years ,Nigeria has witnessed a growth in the number of middle class families with the associated need to have a home of their own ,thereby further deepening the real estate market in Nigeria.

It is on record that over 60% of the entire population of the country lives on rented accommodation. This indicates another latent market in the real estate industry in Nigeria.

The increasing need to build new residential houses, factories and offices to accommodate Nigeria’s large population has made cement block molding a very lucrative business in the country.

This report seeks to confirm the financial viability or otherwise of establishing a concrete block production plant in Nigeria capable of producing various sizes of 6 inch and 9 inch blocks.

The QTY4-30Type Hydraulic ground mould is a mobile brick machine and is expected to operate for 8 hours in a day and 300 days per annum. The plant is expected to produce 960 pieces of 9 inch blocks in a day {working for 4 hours} and 1,600 pieces of 6 inch blocks in a day {working for 4 hours}.

The raw materials required for production would be locally sourced and they include crushed stone, sand, water, cement and though other materials like dust, coal fly ash and other industrial wastes can be used.

MINI-POULTRY FEED PRODUCTION IN NIGERIA, THE FEASIBILITY REPORT.

Nigeria, with a population of about 165,000,000 people is grossly underprovided with an essential food component, which is protein. For example, data from the FOS, CBN, and FAO indicate that from cattle, less than 2kg of beef is available to an average Nigerian per year and just mere 4kg of eggs per annum is available to each Nigerian.

In fact, milk production has been nose diving or at best has remained constant since 1994.This scenario is compounded more so when  the volume of  egg supply is very low, being  10.56g per person per day as compared with the usual recommendation that an egg should be consumed by an adult per day. This recommendation would imply a crate of 30 eggs per month. This story also holds for other meat products including, chicken.

To ameliorate this problem of low-level of protein intake, there is the need for concerted effort, among the various stakeholders to bring about the massive production of protein based food items at competitive costs so that they would be affordable to the general masses. Aside from the other necessary economic reforms, massive investment poultry farming is one way of resolving the problem and invariably in the production of livestock feeds.
Poultry birds require different food formations at different stages of their lives. Some of the feed required is chicks mash, layers mash, broiler mash and growers mash.

However, the advancement in the poultry sector in Nigeria is currently being undermined by the escalating cost of feeds. Previous studies have shown that the high cost of compound feeds for poultry is derived largely from the exorbitant prices of feed ingredients, increasing competitive demand for them and scarcity of the conventional ingredients.

In order to reduce the feed cost which accounts for about 70% of the total cost of poultry production indigenous poultry feed enterprises came into existence. Most small scale poultry enterprises now depend on these indigenous feed rations. The raw materials are sourced locally. The feed constitutes mainly of maize, sorghum spent grains, groundnut cake, soya bean meal, fish meal and bone meal.

This report examines the financial viability of establishing a livestock feed processing plant in Nigeria. The installed capacity of the proposed factory is 2.5 tons of poultry feed operating for 8 hours which translates to 100 bags of 25kg livestock feed.

PHOSPHATE ORE MINING IN NIGERIA, THE PRE-FEASIBILITY REPORT.

Phosphate rock refers to a mineral assemblage that occurs naturally with an exceptionally high concentration of phosphate minerals. Phosphate usually occurs as the mineral apatite, Ca5F(PO4)3 in igneous and metamorphic rocks. It may be derived from a number of sources but the most common is the one that contains high concentration of phosphates in nodular or compact masses.

The Nigerian phosphate rock deposits are sedimentary in origin. They occur mostly in granular, nodular and vesicular forms with an average weight percent of P205 varying from 34.5 to 36.25%, which compares favourably with the phosphate at Hahotos, Togo (36.6%).
Occurrences of phosphate rock are known in Sokoto, Abia, Cross Rivers, Kogi, Ondo and Ogun States. The deposits of phosphate beds in the Sokoto embayment represent southward extension of the deposits in Niger Republic.

The deposits are found in areas within the geological feature termed the Illummeden Basin.
Phosphate fertilizer and detergents are the major user industries of phosphate rock. Metal treatment, water treatment, pulp and paper, glass and ceramics, textiles, plastics, rubber, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics, petroleum production, toothpaste, paints, fuels, cells are other end-user industries of phosphate rock.

Since phosphates are produced in a few countries and are consumed in most, there is a large international trade in phosphate rock, phosphoric acid and phosphate fertilizer. Growth in fertilizer demand worldwide is expected to average annual 2.7% over the next few years, which will directly increase demand for phosphate rock. The Federal super-phosphate Company, Kaduna and the National Fertlizer Company, Port-Harcourt requires about 300,000 tonnes of phosphate rock per annum. Other areas of phosphate use are in Flame retarder/fire extinguisher production, food and beverage industries, dentistry etc. All these would also increase future demand.

This report seeks to examine the financial viability or otherwise of mining phosphate rock in Nigeria.

LIMESTONE MINING IN NIGERIA, THE PRE-FEASIBILITY REPORT.

Nigeria is blessed with abundant mineral resources, which are from time immemorial formed the backbone of the nation’s economic and industrial development aspirations. Prior to independence, the nation’s mineral raw material resources contributed immensely to the export earnings of the nation.

For over three decades, the Country has continued to depend entirely on oil for her revenue and the volatile nature of the oil market has made it imperative for us to diversify the mono-product economy through exploitation and processing of our abundant solid mineral resources.

The clamour for resource control being advocated by states with petroleum resources in their domain makes it imperative for us to develop, exploit, process and utilize our solid minerals – particularly Non-metallic Minerals as every part of this country is blessed with one or more solid mineral that could yield substantial revenue for sustainable development.

Exploitation of the Non-metallic Minerals has not attained the desired level, mainly because of the various constraints associated with their exploitation, development and processing for utilization. Many of the non-metallic minerals, which are vital to the industrial take off of the country, have been found in commercial quantities within the country.

They include limestone, dolomite, marble, kaolin, barite, diatomite, feldspar, quartz and silica sands, gypsum, talc, silimanite, kyanite, phosphate, salt and bentonite.

Limestone is widespread in the sedimentary basins of Nigeria.  It is used extensively in cement production, as flux and refractory material, metallurgical applications etc.

Prominent reserve has been proved to exist all over the country. The marble and dolomite deposits in Nigeria are often associated with the meta-sediments such as schist, amphibolites complex and metal-conglomerates.  They are also used as flux in steel making.

Limestone deposits in different parts of Nigeria are in excess of 2 billion metric tonnes. Investors have a very lucrative opportunity by taking advantage of these deposits to set up cement factories in different parts of the country to meet domestic demand and export to the sub-region.

This report seeks to examine the financial viability or otherwise of mining limestone rocks in Nigeria.

MANGANESE ORE MINING IN NIGERIA, THE PRE-FEASIBILITY REPORT.

The Nigerian nation is blessed with abundant mineral resources; fossil fuels and solid minerals. The most popular being the fossil fuels since these constitute the nation’s greatest foreign exchange earner. They have, therefore, tended to overshadow the solid mineral sector of mining industry.

The mineral spread in Nigeria is significant with evidence of 34 different minerals distributed in Nigeria’s richly endowed geology. Though not all the mineral occurrences will ultimately have enough reserves to be of viable interest to mining companies, the Nigerian government is leaving no stone unturned in its increasingly sustained efforts to delineate and objectively demonstrate the potential and encourage investments in all.

Nigeria has excellent and very significant deposits of manganese ore. Manganese is a silvery-gray metal resembling iron. It is hard and very brittle, difficult to fuse, but easy to oxidize. Manganese metal and its common ions are paramagnetic. The most important manganese ore is pyrolusite (MnO2). Other economically important manganese ores usually show a close spatial relation to the iron ores.

Manganese is essential to iron and steel production by virtue of its sulfur-fixing, deoxidizing, and alloying properties. Steelmaking, including its iron making component, has accounted for most manganese demand, presently in the range of 85% to 90% of the total demand.

Among a variety of other uses, manganese is a key component of low-cost stainless steel formulations. Small amounts of manganese improve the workability of steel at high temperatures, because it forms a high melting sulfide and therefore prevents the formation of a liquid iron sulfide at the grain boundaries.

This report seeks to examine the financial viability or otherwise of mining manganese ore 35% in Nigeria.

MICA MINING IN NIGERIA, THE PRE-FEASIBILITY REPORT.

They include limestone, mica, dolomite, marble, kaolin, barite, diatomite, feldspar, quartz and silica sands, gypsum, talc, silimanite, kyanite, phosphate, salt and bentonite.
Muscovite is a phyllosilicate mineral of aluminium and potassium. It has a highly-perfect basal cleavage yielding remarkably-thin laminæ (sheets) which are often highly elastic.

Muscovite is the most common mica, found in granites, pegmatites, gneisses, and schist’s, and as a contact metamorphic rock or as a secondary mineral resulting from the alteration of topaz, feldspar, kyanite, etc. In pegmatites, it is often found in immense sheets that are commercially valuable.

Mica is common in all the three major rock varieties, which are igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic. It occurs in igneous rocks such as granites and pegmatite; in metamorphic rocks like gneisses and schist; and in sedimentary rocks like sandstones, clays, etc.

Mica is widely distributed all over Nigeria.  Substantial quatities are found in the siliceous gneisses and pegmatite of Moriki district in Zamfara State, also in Kogi, Rivers, Nassarawa, Ogun, Ekiti and some other states.

By virtue of its chemical and physical properties, mica has historically found a niche in a range of industries.  In the last two or three centuries the range of uses has been widened.
The introduction of wet and dry ground, micronised, built-up, reconstituted and paper forms of mica have expanded the markets demand for mica, which previously was only served by sheet mica.  The principal markets are construction, coatings, plastics, electronics, paper and drilling mud.

This report seeks to examine the financial viability or otherwise of mining mica sheets in Nigeria.

LEAD ORE MINING IN NIGERIA, THE PRE-FEASIBILITY REPORT.

The Nigeria nation is blessed with abundant mineral resources; fossil fuels and solid minerals. The most popular being the fossil fuels since these constitute the nation’s greatest foreign exchange earner. They have, therefore, tended to overshadow the solid mineral sector of mining industry.

It is reassuring to note that the government has progressively in recent past years shown great interest in the exploitation of Nigeria’s solid minerals as a means of diversifying our economic base, putting in place the NATIONAL POLICY ON MINERALS METAL IN NIGERIA and other such policy documents in order to drive investment in the sector.

Solid minerals are many types occurring in many diverse environments in response to many diverse geology and geologic events. The resources can nonetheless be discussed under five (5) groups thus:

1. Iron and Iron-alloy metals
2. Non-ferrous Industrial metals
3. Precious metals
4. Metal fuel
5. Industrial minerals

The Non-ferrous industrial metals contain a group of minerals which include copper, lead, zinc, tin and aluminium bearing minerals. All are found in Nigeria at varying concentrations and different forms.

Copper (Cu): There are between 150 and 180 copper minerals. Of these, the commonest and the most important form mined are native copper (Cu); oxides of copper: cuprite (Cu2O); tenorite (CuO); and a variety of copper sulphides such as bornite (Cu5FeS4); chalcocite (Cu2S); tetrahedrite [(CuFe) 12Sb4S13] and chalcopyrite (Cu2Fe2S4).

Lead (Pb) is next in abundance with 120 to 150 lead-bearings minerals known. The commonest lead ore is the sulphide galena (PbS). Other forms are known but don’t often occur as ore minerals. An important lead mineral worth mentioning is vanadinite ( Pb5 (VO4)3Cl). This lead mineral is sought, not for its lead but for the strategic metal, vanadium.

Zinc (Zn) is sought as calamine (calamine lotion) also known among mineralogists as hemimorphite: Zn4 (OH)2Si2O7.H2O. The most common occurrence is as sulphide: sphalerite (ZnS) and carborate-smithsonite (ZnCO3). There are at least 52 other zinc bearing minerals.

Tin (Sn) occurs mostly as native metal, tin and in combined form as oxide, cassiterite (SnO2). Fifteen (15) other tin bearing minerals are known but these occur as trace minerals in rocks of appropriate composition.

Aluminium (Al) is the most abundant metal (element) on the earth’s crust, next only to silicon. There are over 360 aluminium-bearing minerals. The most important of all, which is a resource, is bauxite: a hydrous aluminium oxide.

It is estimated that Nigeria has over 10,000,000 tons of lead ore deposit and it is an important component in car battery production. The prospect of global economy is promising, so the automotive industry which is closely related to the lead market, is witnessing growth thereby creating more demands for the product.

This report seeks to examine the financial viability or otherwise of mining lead ore in Nigeria.

They include limestone, dolomite, marble, kaolin, barite, diatomite, feldspar, quartz and silica sands, gypsum, talc, silimanite, kyanite, phosphate, salt and bentonite.

Kaolin is an important and widely used industrial mineral which is refined from Kaolinite.  It is a naturally – occurring mineral of the clay family and may contain a number of impurities such as quartz, feldspar, tourmaline, ilmenite, zircon, etc, which were derived from the parent rock. It is a weathering product of silicate rocks which is whitish, earthy to dull with plastic touch. The characteristics and chemical composition of a kaolin deposit usually determines its industrial utilization.

The bulk of the Kaolinitic clay deposits in the country are either sedimentary or residual in origin and are usually associated with granitic rocks.  Occurrences of kaolin have been recorded in different parts of the country and specific abundant deposits have been identified in parts of Enugu, Anambra, Kaduna, Katsina, Plateau, Ondo, Ogun, Oyo, Bauchi, Sokoto, and Borno States.  Of these reserves, about 800 million tons of probable/proven deposits have been quantified.

Kaolin is one of the most valuable of the industrial clays which is used in most manufactured products. Prominent uses include paper filling and coating; paint, plastic, adhesive and ink pigment; rubber reinforcing agent; ceramic raw materials for porcelain, dinnerware, tiles and enamels; catalyst for petroleum cracking and auto exhaust emission catalytic control devices; cosmetics base; and digestive coating remedy.

This report seeks to examine the financial viability or otherwise of mining crude kaolin in Nigeria.
