BISCUIT PRODUCTION IN NIGERIA; INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITY IN NIGERIA.

Biscuit is an important item of bakery industry. It has now become a common item of consump­tion among all classes of people. With tea or coffee, biscuit makes a tasty nutritious snack. Biscuit is highly nutritious, easy to digest and can be preserved for a long time.

By varying the ingredients and flavours it is possible to produce a variety of biscuits.There are three widely consumed variants of in Nigeria biscuits namely cream cracker biscuits, soft dough biscuits - digestive and hard dough - sweet cabin.

The manufacturing process for biscuit is conventional and easy. Wheat flour along with other ingredients is mixed with water and dough is prepared. Then it is kept at a normal room temperature for about couple of hours to allow proper fermentation. Then it is placed in biscuit moulding trays and these trays are placed in oven for baking. After requisite baking, trays are taken out, cooled and biscuits are packed.

The three main raw materials required for biscuit production are flour, sugar and palm oil. The other minor ingredients are available through importers. In other words, all materials can be sourced locally and are readily available.

3.Dough mixer, 100 kg cap.
4.Rotary moulder
5.Automatic rotary cutting and punching machine with standard accessories
6.Dough brake with standard accessories

9.Stacking and packing table
1o.Oil spraying machine with heater
11.Dough trolley
12.Milk spray nozzles and air compressor
13.Other miscellaneous and laboratory equipment

The market for biscuit in Nigeria is national. With a population of over 165 million people and an estimated national population growth rate of 5.7% per annum ,an average economic growth rate of 3.5% per annum in the past five {5} years, Nigeria has a large market for biscuit. The total biscuit demand in Nigeria is estimated at about 600,000 MT annually.
