For the benefit of those who need to know, an attempt would be made to define mineral and metal ore. Mineral is an inorganic substance found in nature with a characteristics chemical composition and in some cases, of definite crystal structure. The earth crust contains rocks of different composition with different physical properties. Some hard, some soft.
Rocks are the materials which the earth's upper crusts are made of. Rocks are themselves composed of minerals. Minerals are naturally occurring elements like Gold, or a compound such as Limestone/Marble.

Limestone is widespread in the sedimentary basins of Nigeria. It is used extensively in cement production, as flux and refractory material, metallurgical applications etc.
Prominent reserve has been proved to exist all over the country. The marble and dolomite deposits in Nigeria are often associated with the meta-sediments such as schist, amphibolites complex and metal-conglomerates. They are also used as flux in steel making.
Supply of processed or granulated marble/limestone to end-users has not met demand.

There are few producers of ultra-fine grade limestone/marble. Supply of this quality has largely not been met by small-scale millers whose pooled production output is inadequate.
Therefore, what is urgently required in the marble/limestone industry now, is the establishment of grinding/processing industries, for value added primary products.

Limestone/Marble deposits provide the raw materials for the cement factories at Calabar, Cross River state; Sokoto, Sokoto state; Nkalagu, Enugu state; Okpella, Edo state); Ashaka, Gombe state; Gboko, Benue state; Ewekoro and Shagamu Ogun state; and Obajana in Kogi state.

The production trend has been influenced by activities in the construction industry especially cement production.

The business involves the sourcing of Limestone/Marble, milling and packaging same for sale to cement, paper, paint, chemical and rubber industries.
