ROCK SALT PROCESSING AND EXPORT IN NIGERIA.

I am sure most of our readers are aware to the weather conditions across Europe, Asia and America. Due to the effects of global warming, countries around the world are experiencing on usually amount of snow falls during this winter season.

However, the subject of this article is not on the amount of snow or how much flight or business it affected but how you can position your self and business to benefit from such opportunity during the next winter season.

For those they have lived or are still living abroad where snow fall are rampant, you would agree with me that to melt the ice on roads and other public places in order to make them accessible and motorable, salts are usually sprinkled on the snow. Apart from being used to melt snow, the rock salt could also be exported to other countries where they would be processed into table salt, caustic soda, chlorine, sodium bicarbonate, sodium hypochloric acid and hydrogen peroxide

Rock salt in Nigeria is one of those minerals with little profile because of lack of information. A total reserve of 1.5 billion tones has been identified in the country. There are salt springs at Awe, Abakiliki and Uburu, while rock salt is available in Benue State.

Packaging could be in 50 Kg since the price is quoted in Metric tons. 1000/KG makes 1 ton and this helps in easy containerization of the goods since most shipping company prefer to carry 20 tons in 20 feet container.

Depending on the agreement with the buyer, the investor can also acquire a milling plant to process the rock salt to the size. Sizes usually range from 0-50-100 mm and care must be taken while this is being done because if the product is not broken to the desired size, it might lead to a reduction in price or rejection of goods.

It is advisable that a test be conducted to ascertain the quality of the product before export is conducted.
